SONY HAS UNVEILED its 8GB memory stick micro m2 card, only 11 months after Sandisk announced its one and with just one Sony Ericsson phone capable of supporting it.
The former Tokyo Telecommunications Engineering Corporation for some reason has produced an 8GB m2 card, doubling its current offering. Pourquoi? when there’s only one phone in their arsenal capable of handling it is way beyond us. This is according to the firm's official memory-card chart seen here.
Sony memory stick micro m2 , plus adaptor
We spent some time chasing around today for more information, even a rebuttal when we discovered its lack of usefulness across the entire range – all but to no avail whatsoever.
Sony whole-heartily believes that “upgrading a Sony Ericsson mobile with the new M2 card will give customers a choice of over 5,000 fine quality 5 megapixel photos, over 2000 MP3 songs or over 88 hours of high quality MPEG 4 video”. With just the C902 being able to actually use it, there’s not much of a wide customer base. When other mobile manufactures such as HTC have supported 8GB for yonks. Perhaps the product manager here could deliver the m2 personally and install it for them.
Bundled on the new card for a limited time only over the summer holidays, is access to downloadable free WAP full-version of Gameloft Brain Challenge 2.
Through our deft investigations, we’ve discovered the 8GB m2 card will be on sale for around €69 or £59. This is despite Sandisk offering being seen for only £30, all for that single lone handset crying by itself at the bar. µ
Strange comment to make, seeing as I have used the Sandisk 8GB in both the W910i and K850i without any issue whatsoev er.....
well, starting from OSE A200 ( wich starts with K850i ) the system it self supports up to 32GB, but duo to lake of M2 at this size they only showed 4 - 8GB here's a link from SanDisk, confirms the compatibility with K850i, even thought for a specific model as other have some performance issues.. http://www.sandisk.com/Compatibility/Device(8662)-Sony%20Ericsson-K850i_M2.aspx
I've been using a Sandisk 8GB M2 card with the K850i for months now with no problems. I doubt Sony's stick is any different from the sandisk one apart from price as mentioned.
Looks like sony hasnt got their act together on their own phones. My W880i is happy playing mp3s from a 4 gb M2 card.
Although the specs say 4GB max, my K800 has no problems with the SanDisk 8GB card I bought a few months back. I don't think some of the older firmware likes the bigger card though, from what I've read places.
What's Sony's game? I've been successfully using a Sandisk 8Gb M2 in my SONY ERICSSON P1i for two months. Now that I know it wont work, I guess I'll have to downgrade to a "compatible" 4Gb M2 card. Oh well. It was fun while it lasted.
Even though Sony advises that the W880i will only see a 2Gb M2 stick as a maximum, I am quite happily using a 4Gb M2 stick ;o)
What on earth are SE playing at? I've doubted their leadership for sometime, but I've currently a sandisk 8GB M2 card in my SE K850i. I'd take that chart with a pinch of salt..... L'idiot!
Weird Sony publishes something so wrong. According to that list I'll have to take out my 8gb M2 and stick a 2gb one... nuhh huhhh
My ("really old") w800i is listed as only supporting up to 2Gb, I've been using a 4Gb card in it for ages. For some reason, SE understate the ability of their phones, perhaps so they can sell you a new one, who knows? I'm sure the 8Gb card will work in ALL M2 phones. Perhaps as a journalist you should at least spend 30 seconds doing a Google search so you can provide more accurate information than this unresearched opinion piece you're trying to pass off as news. Don't be so lazy and do your job properly.
